To celebrate five years of successful wine making, Shelter Rock Winery and Wine Making Club will host a gala Harvest Celebration on Sept. 16 complete with a crushing of the grapes.

The stomping of the grapes goes from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m, with the party set to go until 11 p.m.

Since its founding, the winery has increased production from 12 to over 50 barrels a year, as well as added 150 members. It has also become a unique part of the community as well as a vibrant city attraction.

The process is overseen by Winery Founder Giovanni Petretta whose family has been making wine for over 500 years in Santo Stefano del Sole.

“We are hosting the harvest celebration not only for our wine making family and friends but for all of the area’s wine aficionados and novice winemakers," said Petretta.

"I really love introducing people to the magic and joy of making wine…from grape crushing to bottling.”

Petretta provides club members with grapes from top California vineyards along with bottles, corks and personalized labels. He also hosts tastings and catered events throughout the year.

“We like to think of it as one big family, together enjoying an experience, a journey. We not only make wine we build friendships.”

For those who prefer to buy, rather than join the club, you can find Petretta's wines at Caraluzzis (Bethel and Danbury), Max 40, Danbury, Stew Leonard’s, Danbury, Brookfield Wine and Spirits, Zingara in Bethel, The Black Angus and Mazzo’s in Danbury, the Foundry in Newtown and Pulcinella in Brookfield.
