That's where cousins Mike Pietrunti and Dennis Rotunno preside over a New York ice cream shop, the franchise Uncle Louie G, which they opened this winter.

"People are coming in, not just for the ice cream but to order our specialty cakes, and for the coffee," Rotunno said.

A resident of Trumbull, Rotunno is an engineer and owns other businesses. Pietrunti is from Staten Island is retired from working for New York City.

"He previously owned an Uncle Louie G franchise on Staten Island and wanted to bring it here," Rotunno said.

Customers this week have been stopping in despite the cold weather..

"The lattes and espressos are popular but people love the ice cream too. It's made in Brooklyn. The cherry ice cream has chunks of cherries, the pistachio has pistachios."

Rotunno said the business partners expect business to expand in the warmer seasons.

"The Green will be developed this summer and it will bring people in."

Already, customers come for dessert after having dinner at one of the plaza restaurants, he noted.
