It’s 5:30 p.m. and your daughter’s coach calls to tell you she fell at soccer practice and may have a broken wrist. The doctor’s office is closed, so it’s off to the emergency room to wait — and wait — and wait.

Not anymore, says the staff at OSM Stat, a new location of the Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center that opened its doors in Westport on Tuesday. This innovative orthopaedic urgent care facility will offer both regular visits and crucial after-hours walk-in care for just such emergencies.

“Athletes don’t get injured only 9 to 5, Monday through Friday,” said Dr. Michael Redler, one of the partners for the new site.

Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center (OSM), which has been headquartered in Trumbull for more than 20 years, has offices in Shelton, Stratford and Fairfield. The seven doctors associated with the Westport site believe it will be more convenient for many of their patients.

“There’s not really any orthopaedic group or orthopedic urgent care around here,” said Dr. Gerard Girasole. “Our goal was to kind of fill that.”

The new, 2,400-square-foot office features six exam rooms and on-site X-rays. All of the OSM Center’s specialties will be available, including spine care, pain management and sports medicine.

The site will be open from 1 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and the goal is to open on weekends in the future, said project manager Ashley Batcheider.

And though some of the physicians specialize in sports medicine, the office will offer care across the generations. OSM surgeons are well versed in joint replacement, spinal fusion and geriatric care as well.

“We will see anything,” Batcheider said. “From 18 months all the way through.”

OSM Stat is at 1800 Post Road E. in the Stop & Shop shopping center. For more information, visit www.osmstat.com or call 844-OSM-STAT.
