STAMFORD, Conn. — There’s still time to sign up for Girls with Impact, a unique online entrepreneurial program that’s just for teen girls.

On the heels of Connecticut’s first-ever Girls Entrepreneurship Summit, Girls With Impact is calling for teen applicants to join this 12-week program. The deadline to apply is Friday, Sept. 15.

“In my day, we never wanted to be a geek,” said CEO Jennifer Openshaw. “But today, it’s cool.”

According to Openshaw, nearly 40 percent of the workforce will be freelance by 2020, demanding the country equip girls for success in a new economy. Girls with Impact helps girls ages 15 to 17 build entrepreneurship and business skills from home.

Nearly 200 gathered at UConn Stamford last weekend to hear from three Girls with Impact members about how they are impacting their community and college success. Other speakers included New Canaan resident Hadley Pollet, CEO of Hadley Pollet, a contemporary accessories design firm, and Heather Cabot, author of the book “Geek Girl Rising.”

Designed with experts from Harvard Business School, the 12-week academy enables girls to attend class with their expert coaches and classmates at home. Headquartered in Connecticut and partnered with the YWCA, the program provides mentoring and an ongoing network.
