Work has just begun on the Popeyes, which will be located on the same site as site as the nearly completed Texas Roadhouse and the AFC Urgent Care/Aspen Dental building.
The Louisiana-style eatery is known for its fried chicken and Cajun-style fast food.
The nearby Texas Roadhouse is slated for an early summer opening, and Popeyes will most likely be serving up its signature fried chicken, butterfly shrimp and fluffy Southern biscuits by the end of summer or early autumn, according to the spokeswoman for Mayor Mark Boughton.
So far, the Popeyes is just a foundation, but the bright orange exterior walls should be going up soon at the popular fast-food restaurant.
The is site is next to the Ninety Nine Restaurant & Pub, which opened last year in the Holiday Inn, and down the road from the Puerto Vallarta.
The busy stretch of Newtown Road, which is located along the Danbury-Bethel-Brookfield border off Exit 8 of Interstate 84. The area is home to some old favorites, sit-down spots and fast-food joints, including Boston Market, Taco Bell, Dunkin' Donuts, Friendly's, Denny's, Little Caesar's, Burger King, McDonald's, Ichiro, Barbarie's Black Angus Grill, Ki Asian Bistro & Sushi and Chili's.
The new Popeyes will join nearby locations on Fairfield Avenue and North Avenue in Bridgeport and one at the Westfield Trumbull mall. There is also one under construction in Stratford at The Dock Shopping Center.
